Hmmm
JR's is clearly a popular bar in Denver. The handsome space on two floors was crowded on my visit. There were a lot of hot men and it clearly was a nice place, but there was something missing. Go for a drink, maybe you will like it more than I did.
I wish there was dancing...
I find it very odd that "the best gay bar in Denver" offers no dancing. Other than that the staff is generally nice (even to women) and the crowd is decently friendly. Drink prices are fairly cheap, but it can definitely get crowded on a Thursday night. Most people love it, but I would suggest checking it out for yourself. In all honesty, it would be nice to see some more women out there.
Always Busy
I've been to JR's a few times. The place always draws a good crowd and the drinks are reasonably priced. Most people seem to arrive in small groups with their friends. But, everyone mixes well and has fun.
An average place
I've been to JR's several times because it seems to be where all the guys hangout. It is busy, no doubt. I've never been happy with the place, fluctuating drink prices depending on the bartendar, to cramped and they never open the up stairs, and the young obnoxious guys. I recently went to the JRs in Houston, and now it's hard to come back to Denver JRs. Thats a great bar, lots of room, outgoing and down to earth staff, an outdoor patio. It reminded me of the old Grand. I miss the old days.
Just my 2 cents...
During my extended stay in Denver I heard this was THE PLACE TO GO on a Thursday. I don't understand. YES the place was packed with people...a very mixed men/women's crowd... One thing that completely annoyed me was that there was an inordinate number of women who were extremely loud, drunk and obnoxious....I saw at least 5 of them break glasses in their drunken stupor. The help...not great... waited at least 10 minutes in line while they talked with their friends... the guys in general seemed to be of two types... 30 something "Guppies" exuding an air more of self-importance than kindness or young "twink boy" types who like to point at other people and say "Oh look at HER!" Not THE PLACE to go unless you want to be seen in a place where everyone else wants to be seen. Pass.
