I'm still looking for a good Denver bar...
Been here now three times and each time its the same thing, bartenders that act like they are too lazy to want to do their jobs, 28ish year olds wearing make up trying to look 20, and (on karioke night) str8 people that get drunk and loud. Everytime I have been its been the drugged out looking undesirables or some people that I am pretty sure were homeless. It seems like Denver has two types of bars, snobby, pretentious wanna be queens, or drug-induced street trash, can someone please suggest just a bar where you can get good, friendly service, nice normal people to talk with, a hook up if you want but without being molested,...does that exist here?
Charlies is not SAFE
Attention Spring Breaker for Spring Break 2016. Charlies is the most dangerous GLBT bar in Denver. Charlie’s security will not keep you safe!!! Recently, Charlie’s has had police incidents including methamphetamine possession, illegal weapon possession, 4 assaults, thefts, and cars stolen. Stay safe and stay away from this place. Just last month of February 2016, here are the crimes at Charlie’s as verified with Denver Police:
02/22/16 Meth Poss. 9:10PM Incident # 2016114342
02/22/16 Weapon Poss. 9:10PM Incident #2016114342
02/21/16 ASSAULT 12:15AM Incident #2016110129
02/13/16 LARCENY 11:50PM Incident #20166001530
02/11/16 Auto Theft 11:30PM Incident #201693176
02/03/16 Theft/Larceny 11:45PM Incident #20166001644
Charlie’s management ignores the fact that they are breaking all the rules for many business practices to protect their customers by erasing video, deleting social media reviews, and refusing to comment on questions on failing restaurant report card when nicely asked by FOX31Denver’s Heidi Hemmat. Charlie’s is a great bar to stay away from. When legitimate complaints are filed with the Denver Police, Denver Health Department inspectors, and customers using social media business rating sites, Charlie’s management ignores the legitimate complaints and continues doing BAD BUSINESS AS USUAL.
Great staff!!!!
This is a Great Review
My experience after being a customer for 20 years was an assault last April. Charlie’s turned a deaf ear on my vicious assault. When confronted by Denver Police, they “conveniently” replaced their security system thus destroying the footage of my assault. That is bad business according standard security practices for bars and night clubs and police.
Secondly, management obviously does not have Pride in their own GLBT bar. Case in point. On June 21, 2015 pride Sunday after their 4am afterhours party, Charlies was too lazy to clean their bathrooms for their customers that chose Charlies to drink cocktails before the grand 40th Annual Pride Celebration PARADE. Charlie’s competition uses professional cleaning companies to thoroughly clean bathrooms the early morning’s hours when venues are closed.
No wonder why Charlie’s competitor was used to host the annual Pride pool party.
In recent years, Charlies earned an “F” on their restaurant report card for 10 critical violations including dead & alive roaches, rodent droppings, numerous small flying insects in bottles of Vermouth, Wild Turkey and Highland Park whisky. There were accumulations of food and debris on the soda guns, walls, and various ice machines and on the hard floors. The management refused to comment when asked by FOX 31.

If you value your person & valuable, then STAY AWAY FROM HERE!!
Your valuables & your person, may NOT be safe and protected!!On 4/27/15, 12:00am I was assaulted by an assailant resulting in medical expenses over $100,000.Another Charlie’s customer was harassing me. I was blind sighted by the assailant.Immediately,I alerted bartender of my shattered hip tragedy. Instead of an ambulance that I requested, Charlie’s called police & I was violently shoved into police car. The police said that 1 week after the assault, Charlie’s had lost security footage on May 6. Charlie’s initial response of not calling an ambulance for a tragic injury on their property is deplorable. Denver Police 2015 crime maps show Charlie’s ALONE has more VIOLENT ASSAULT &THEFTS/LACENCY crimes reported than 87.5 % of all Denver GLBT bars in last 6 months. So if you decide to visit Charlie’s, keep in mind it may be safer to visit other establishments for quality drag shows, dancing, and quality refreshments. YOUR PHYSICAL QUALITY OF LIFE JUST MIGHT DEPEND ON IT!!!!
An okay place
If you want country get here early. Dance lessons by Billy are great! Cheap drinks! But don't expect country all night. Denvers only gay country bar turns to top 40 too early in the night with a DJ drag queen that can't even fill up a small dance floor let alone the main floor. Management is more concerned about making money than making the place country. Don't expect Cowboys in the Caribbean on pride weekend to be country. Management said to get use to top 40. This is what happens when you let a twink from AZ run a 30+ year old country bar.
This is where they coined the term "WHITE MEN CAN'T DANCE"
The men that do country are great.....it's on the "club" dance side it gets sketchy. The bar is full of cowboys and lesbians which always makes for an interesting mix. Thursday night is generally Charlie's night.....although it's becoming more diluted by other bars. It's definitely cheap........there are always drink specials but the bartenders generally won't mention them so keep that in mind. Beer by the pitcher is available. What can be said of Charlie's is that there is a pair of mirror covered boots hanging and spinning from the ceiling. If that appeals to you......hey. this is YOUR bar.
Good Social Bar
This place is always packed sometimes to the brim. Can be a little overbearing as far as alot of people. I enjoy Charlie's when there are about 20 people instead of 60-70 people. I enjoy the social atmosphere.
Country
This was one of 4 bars I recently visited in Denver.Laid back country bar. Everyone seemed to be having fun. Took 2 step lessons from Billy. Great guy! great instruction!! Met some nice guys after initalizing the conversation. (What's with the insecurities Men?) I would come here again.
Hello
I was always told when I was younger and cuter that Charlies was the place to go. So I went quite a few times because of my best friend. Was never impressed with Charlies. Bartenders were rude and wait was ok depending on who it was. Too many cliques for me. Try to talk to the guy's that are there and you get a nose in the air. My opinion "GO SOMEWHERE ELSE"!!!!!!!
Pretty bad karaoke...but an OK bar
I really can't reecommend karaoke at Charlie's. And I don't do country line dancing. But I still like this place. It is big. And I can't think of a better place if I did do country line dancing.
Dive bar that is not sure it is a country bar
Was there tonight, there were more ladies (if you can call them that) and drunks from early In the day there and this was at 9 PM. The whole building was shaking because the DJ had the a really bad case of the bass going on which in turn ruined the music that was being played. There is not one person on the dance floor that followed the rules of country dancing and every dance was a line dance. the management and owners really need to rethink this bar and decide if it is a country bar or a twink bar. most years the place is packed for Rodeo but tonight I did not see to many "cowboys" there. This bar was much better even 10 years ago, but now it is just a dive bar that I will not be going back to until they change the way the run the place.
