Kewl place to hang
Was in town for Broncos game took a chance on bar glad I did. Friendly people and good crowd for a Sunday. I thought the bartenders were kick ass. It sure has changed from the last time I was there when it was a mess. I say check it out.
Look elsewhere for a gay bar...
They need new management or consider shutting their doors. Charlie's is terrible! The servers, bartenders, and front door personnel are very rude and unprofessional. This place is not what it used to be and has gone down hill considerably.
Boy, is this place a dive anymore
10 years ago this was a great country gay bar, but not now. Building is a total mess, almost scary to go into, bathroom is worst Iv ever seen, very unfriendly staff, very few cowboys here, mostly an older crowd, some druggies, never much of a crowd. Someone in the review says its the best country bar in usa, boy where has he been, roundup in dallas is 1000 percent better. This place is to be avoided, sure wish another country gay b ar would open, it would be a hit.
Country Western Gay Bar
If you've never seen two guys in cowboy hats two-step, you should check out Charlie's. Admittedly, this is not my favorite Denver venue, but they are supportive of the community, and they have been around forever. They have a main dance floor with generally country western music, and a smaller "pop" dance area. Currently, Sunday nights are Vivid (drag show). Some folks will bounce over this way on a Thursday night after hitting JR's for their beer specials earlier in the night. Lots of "everyday" people here, pretty diverse crowd.
Pleasantly surprised
The best thing of Charlie's is that is different than your average gay bar. It's the first bar I've ever been to where people were ballroom dancing. Men with men and woman with woman. I really enjoyed watching this. The ballroom dancing was alternated with line dancing. Also very nice to watch. The crowd is down to earth and there are no fashionista's or evil queens. As more people commented: the service isn't great. The waiters are quite slow and not very attentive.
