In Spring of 2001, in the Community Room of Eugene Field Branch Library, Matt Wallington, Matt Krupa, Mike Sjerven and Howard Semones all met to take classes on a trend in Denver at the time: Improv Comedy.
Shortly after, Monkey's Uncle Comedy Improv formed and landed a monthly gig at Jazz at Jack's at their original location on Platte Street. Larry Epstein joined the group as a refugee from But, Seriously Improv in 2002, and Shari Myers, traded for a first round draft pick, came on later on in 2005.
After moving downtown with Jazz at Jack's, the Monkeys found a new home at the Avenue Theater, conveniently located two blocks from Steuben's wedge salads. Billy Draper was picked up hitchhiking in 2012 to add some height to the group, and the Monkeys moved to the beautiful Curious Theater, only to get dizzy from finally performing on a real big-person stage.
We enter the Fall of 2016, the 15th Anniversary of Monkey's Uncle Comedy Improv, and what-feels-like a good time to retire*. You'll ask us why, and we'll say "because, it's time".
Please join us on September 13th at the Curious Theater for a trip down memory lane, and help celebrate in style. We'll celebrate 15 years of characters, offensive humor, fry-daddies, and friendship.
You'll want to see this show. You may never have the chance to again.
*Does that mean we could pull a "Cher" and have a reunion tour
sometime in the future? HECK YES! I'm mean, we're not DEAD, jeez!
